Steve Gelsi (pronounced “Jelsi”) covers deals, fundraising and trends in U.S. private equity as senior editor at Buyouts and a contributor to peHub and Reuters TV. Mr. Gelsi's recent Buyouts cover stories focused on the rising popularity of sponsored initial public offerings and a shift toward buttoned-down annual meetings for buyout funds. Mr. Gelsi joined Buyouts in March 2013 after 15 years as a journalist and video correspondent for Dow Jones MarketWatch where he worked a variety of beats, from energy and IPOs to media and technology. Mr. Gelsi was one of MarketWatch’s first bloggers with coverage of Occupy Wall Street and later as a contributor to the site’s blog, The Tell. Mr. Gelsi authored the 2002 book, “How America Made A Killing And Lost Its Shirt” and served as president of the New York Financial Writers’ Association in 2008. Mr. Gelsi lives in Montclair, N.J., with his wife and three children.

Scott Gluck, Esq., Venable LLP

Mr. Gluck's practice focuses on federal government affairs and regulatory work involving financial entities with a particular focus on private equity funds and their portfolio companies.

Mr. Gluck assists private equity funds on a variety of corporate, legislative and regulatory matters, including fund formation and compliance with federal regulations under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940. He is also deeply familiar with federal, state and local "pay-to-play" rules regulating political involvement and fundraising activities by investment advisers.

Mr. Gluck represents the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), a leading trade association for middle-market private equity funds, with respect to their federal legislative and regulatory efforts.

Prior to joining Venable, Mr. Gluck served for five years as vice president and legal counsel at Markstone Capital Group, a Los Angeles-based private equity fund. During the 2009-2010 election cycle, he served as Director of Special Initiatives for the National Republican Congressional Committee.

After graduating from law school, he worked for two top Los Angeles-based law firms, where he practiced securities law and litigation. Mr. Gluck also received an MBA from the University of Southern California, and is well versed in both legal and business issues.

Maurice Gordon, Managing Director, The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America

Maurice Gordon is a Managing Director and the Head of Private Equity for the Guardian Life Insurance Company of America.He joined Guardian’s investment team in 2010 and is responsible for fund investing, co-investing and secondaries. He has over 24 years experience in private equity investing and portfolio management. Mr.Gordan has successfully originated and lead 27 direct and co-investment transactions and has managed institutional private equity portfolios totaling over $4.5 billion in a variety of buyout,venture capital,mezzanine and special situation partnerships,hedge funds,and private placements.He has served on 23 company boards of directors and fund advisory boards.Previously, Mr.Gordan spent over six years as a senior manager of a successful co-investment fund located in Chicago.Previously, Mr.Gordan was a managing director and head of The Hartford Insurance Company's private equity investment group,managing an $800 million diversified private equity portfolio.Previously, he was the managing general partner and head of CIGNA Investment Corporations mezzanine limited partnerships. Eric Gorman, Manager, Alternative Investments Research, The Private Client Reserve at U.S. Bank

Eric Gorman is the Manager of Alternative Investments Research for U.S. Bank Wealth Management, and is responsible for directing all aspects of Alternative Investment research and Fund Manager selection. This includes all due diligence, strategy research, idea generation, data management, and client-facing research output across the hedge fund, private equity, natural resource, and the liquid alternatives spaces.

The last 10+ years of Mr. Gorman’s career has solely focused on Alternative Investments. Prior to joining U.S. Bank Wealth Management in 2007, Eric worked for Slocum, an institutional investment consulting firm, as a Research Associate for its Alternative Investments Research Team. Additionally, he has spoken at a number of events focusing on a wide range of topics within the Alternatives space.

Mr. Gorman has been successful in growing the Bank’s Private Client assets in Alternative’s from less than $200 million, when he joined, to over $2.5 billion today. Given the Bank’s expansive and differentiated client set, this growth has included a wide and growing spectrum of product solutions, inclusive of both strategic and opportunistic strategies. In addition to private vehicles such as hedge funds and private equity, the Team has also been at the forefront of evaluation and adoption of Registered “Liquid Alternative” strategies. The comprehensive review of such a large universe of solutions is a great competitive advantage, allowing for a more complete and relative viewpoint when assessing and understanding each new opportunity.

Mr.Gorman earned bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Management from the University of Minnesota-Morris.

Mr.Gorman, his wife, Megan, and their three children live in Maple Grove, Minnesota.

Timothy Greene, Vice President, Hartford Investment Management

Tim is a Vice President and a Portfolio Manager in the Private Placements Group, where he is responsible for mezzanine, private equity and limited partnership investments.Mr.Greene has also led the diversification of our fund strategy into the infrastructure market.Prior to joining the firm in 2005,Mr.Greene spent seven years in the Mezzanine and Private Equity sectors with middle market firms such as Christopher Capital, Banc One Mezzanine Corporation, and Bruml Capital.Prior to that,he served in various roles in Investment Banking and Corporate Development. Mr.Greene earned his AB from Dartmouth College and his MBA from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration.

Mark Guinney, Managing Partner, The Presidio Group

Mark Guinney, Managing Director and Head of the Investment Team at The Presidio Group, leads a team of analysts responsible for asset-liability modeling, money manager due diligence and selection, risk management and portfolio management. He joined us in 2001 after working as an investment consultant with Watson Wyatt, where he worked with large pension plans in developing asset allocation, asset-liability modeling, evaluating manager structure, and selecting and monitoring investment managers. Clients included Microsoft, City & County of San Francisco, City of Houston, Kellogg, Los Angeles Unified School District, Nordstrom, Alaska Airlines, and Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. Mr. Guinney has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, and is a member of the CFA Institute and the San Francisco Analysts Society. Mark also earned his M.B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and his B.A. degree in economics from Pomona College.

Rob Guttschow, Senior Portfolio Manager, co-head of Alternatives, First Trust Advisors

Mr. Guttschow, CFA, is a senior portfolio manager and co-head of the Alternatives Investment Team at First Trust Advisors. Mr. Guttschow has 20+ years of investment experience managing a variety of strategies including equity, fixed income, commodities, and derivative-based strategies.

Prior to joining First Trust in July 2011, Mr. Guttschow was Co-Chief Investment Officer at Nuveen HydePark Group LLC where he started in 2007. While at Nuveen HydePark Group LLC, Mr. Guttschow co-directed investment activities including research, product development,trading, portfolio management, and performance attribution. Previously, Mr. Guttschow was an Overlay Manager and Senior Portfolio Manager at Nuveen Asset Management, where he developed Nuveen’s buy-side derivative desk for fixed income and equity portfolio hedging. Mr. Guttschow was responsible for developing and implementing derivative-based hedging strategies for 9 portfolio managers with $50+ billion in assets under management.

Mr. Guttschow started his career at Lotsoff Capital Management where, at the time of his departure, he was a Partner and Managing Director. At Lotsoff Capital Management, Mr. Guttschow managed approximately $1.5 billion in a various fixed income and equity-based strategies.

Mr. Guttschow received a B.S. in Materials Engineering (Ceramics) and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana in 1991 and 1993, respectively. Mr. Guttschow holds the Chartered Financial Analysis designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Chicago.
